The Cure Home is a conceptual senior living project designed to reimagine the future of senior living. The needs and expectations of current and upcoming generations of older adults are different than previous generations. In response, senior living design needs to adapt to accommodate younger generations as they age. The Cure home encourages an active and independent lifestyle that provides seniors with a housing option that allows them to successfully age in place for the remainder of life.

Cure Home is innovatively designed to support six keys to seamless aging in place: neighborhood living, life-care assistance, carefree living, accessibility solutions, adaptable design, and easy integration of home health services. To be considered a Cure Home, a home must be certified through a rigorous evaluation of essential ageless design elements. This evaluation is called the Cure Home compliance review, and a home must score a minimum of 90% or higher to receive certification.

This Cure Home project consists of six types of homes, each with a unique layout, all of which focus on ageless design. Ageless design describes the essential accessibility and adaptability features of each home. These features allow for spaces and items within the home to be easily modified to meet the unique needs of each resident as they age. For example, if a wheelchair becomes needed, doorways have structural framing already in place in the wall to easily widen doorways without affecting electrical wiring or other elements in the walls. Support blocking is built into the walls during construction so grab bars or benches may be installed when they become needed.  There are more than thirty such design criteria incorporated into a Cure Home.

Isolation is a common problem among older adults. Cure Home combats this by integrating neighborhood living both within the home and its surrounding site, creating a strong community that nourishes social, mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Neighborhood living incorporates amenity spaces throughout the building, including all the ground level amenities together with the central core atrium of each floor above, as well as the amenities and community of the surrounding site. The Cure Home concept expands into the surrounding development which includes not only the Cure Home building, but also an existing nursing home that provides intensive care as needed, a series of ageless design single home villas, and the outdoor amenities that tie the community together.

The Cure home concept is a forward-thinking design app roach to senior living that recognizes the evolving needs of current and upcoming generations of aging adults and their desire to age in place. By prioritizing the six keys to aging-in-place, ageless design, and neighborhood living that provides community and encourages active and independent living—all through a strict evaluation and certification process—the Cure Home concept will continue to reshape the future of senior living and allow older adults to age with dignity in the comfort of their own home.
