The project was to revive an old apartment space and design it as a ‘second’ home for a non-resident Indian based in the New York City. Located on one of the first high-rise towers in the heart of the Anand city, it is a 1200 sq.ft. 2-bedroom apartment. The client brief was to design a minimalist and contemporary interiors for a home away from home, best reflecting his subtle taste.
One major modification we made was to incorporate an open kitchen concept, by taking down an existing wall that connected the dining and the kitchen areas. Giving the dining area a more extrovert feeling is a beautiful adjoining verandah, which makes it a perfect outdoor setting for any hour of the day. This in turn puts the living, dining and the verandah in a linear succession and allows for a single chunk of space for large gatherings.
As suited best to the minimal taste of our client, furniture and details have been kept simple and a controlled palette of tones of ivory has been used for most of the surfaces. To add to it a hint of play, specific walls have been emphasized with a change in palette through brighter tones. Complementing it, are the soft furnishings that perfectly compose the eclectic mix of colors against the brilliance of wooden textures.
As for the client’s love of nature and art, the bonsais and artworks add to the visual appeal of this contemporary functional and minimal second home.
