The spar supermarket on the bank of the lake traunsee, in the center of the town of gmunden is to be enlarged. The expanded space results from a new design of the surrounding public space. An urban furnishing in the form of a “sunbed” presents a new attraction for the passers-by along the esplanade.

The bench invites visitors to enjoy the panorama of the lake and the sunshine, and “performances” of all kinds can take place here as well. The slightly bent form of the bench offers shelter and is reminiscent of an alcove.
The wooden seats provide comfortable seating especially during the change of seasons. The bench is made of precast elements in architectural concrete. This high quality material with stone characteristics ensures long-lasting elegance. An indirect lighting under the seat illuminates the immediate vicinity and gives the bench a special quality at night. Behind this wall, designed as an urban furnishing, is the expanded space of the supermarket spar.
A new transparent glass facade encloses the new commercial space on the side. The contour of the old building thus remains visible, and the inside can be seen from outside.
