This time the manuarino studio has faced the interesting challenge of providing all the comforts of contemporary living for a family of up to 4 people in 73 square meters obtained by dividing a two-storey villa into two separate apartments. For an inexperienced eye it does not seem to be an apartment of only 73 square meters when the access staircase to the lower floor leads to the living room-kitchen which gives the total view of a very bright and homogeneous space. Framed by the kitchen on one side and the TV wall on the other, the living room uses direct sunlight which is further amplified by the use of light and fresh colors such as the white of the walls, the light gray of the stoneware floor and the blond of the birch plywood elements, strictly custom made by a local craftsman.
The edges of the birch plywood panels have been deliberately left exposed to emphasize the material sincerity and to emphasize the beauty of the light-dark crossed fibers of the birch that is used without shyness. The furnishing theme is therefore expressed with birch wood, which in the most extreme case becomes a dividing wall between master bedroom and living room and is sometimes used on one side, with some cabinet doors in the bedroom, sometimes on the other with the TV wall unit.
The kitchen developed in a linear fashion is also made of birch with a white quartz top and white glass appliances. The large window on the sink area overlooks the historic center of Bacoli and the bell tower of the church of Sant’Anna.
The bathrooms welcome the general flooring and also show it on the wall with a three-dimensional decorative wave detail in the shower that gives an elegant vibration to the bathroom.
The architect Salvatore Vicidomini together with the friendly clients, Luca and Rosita, managed to obtain from the few meters available an elegant, functional house that could be looked at as well as to live.
Arch. Salvatore Vicidomini: Born in Naples, lived and raised in Monte di Procida, after having achieved scientific maturity at the Liceo Polispecialistico in Bacoli he enrolled at the Faculty of Architecture in Naples, where he graduated in the three-year course in Architectural Sciences with honors and dignity of publication presenting a thesis in Architectural Design for an ecological site in Monte di Procida, followed by Prof. Arch. Sandro Raffone.
Admitted to the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio, Switzerland, he attended the master’s course in Architectural Design guided, during the first year of specialization, by Franz Oswald and Valerio Olgiati.
Between the first and second year of specialization, he took a year of professional practice in Asuncion, Paraguay, at the “Gabinete de Aquitectura” by Solano Benitez.
Back in Switzerland he attended the last semester with the architect Walter Angonese and graduated in Architecture with Mario Botta presenting a thesis for a Railway Station in London.
Back in Italy, in his hometown, and obtained the qualification to the profession, he inaugurates the study “manuarino_architettura + design”.
