Coordination Asia have recently completed their latest collaboration with Gaga restaurants and cafés, that’s housed inside a historic villa in the heart of Shanghai, China.
Built in the late 19th century, the villa was once a Christian girls’ school, however it is now a bright and welcoming cafe and restaurant, spread out over two floors.
Studio: Coordination Asia
Location: China
The cafe area is located on the main floor, with a service counter on one side of the open plan room, and a seating area on the opposite side.
Dark blue walls match the dark blue banquette seating that wraps around the seating area, creating a striking contrast to the white walls and ceiling.
Also on the first floor is a bar area with black accent walls that match the black chairs, and dramatic lamella lighting on the ceiling.
Highlighted by the use white walls and tile work are the rest rooms.
Here’s a look at the stairs that lead up to the second floor of the space that’s home to the restaurant.
Upstairs, the building’s original pitched ceiling has been highlighted and preserved, and brought up to date by way of a striking brass installation that hangs above the space and a calming mountain mural in blues and greys.
Other seating in the restaurant includes booths with round backlit mirrors on the wall.
