THE SHIP OF THESEUS As a Social Plug In Mumbai | KAUSHAL TATIYA

The story of my thesis started as it always bothered me the role architecture has, to engage not only with the  physical objects of existence but with the society. Is it something that restrains, limits, restricts or is it an opportunity that empowers, enables and liberates ?

EXPERIMENT: This proposal is a device, a thought experiment, enabling the potential of an edge to be explored beyond the limitations of Mumbai’s industrial sprawl ambitions .For the project, Mumbai is revisited to capitalise from the economy of ‘happiness’ as an alternative industry using SHIP OF THESEUS as a metaphorical protagonist for identity.
The Ship of Theseus is an Experimental Thought questioning the Transitory nature of Identitiy .
AIM : The aim of the thesis is enabling a sense of Identity to these unheard, through their participation devising a model of engagement using an existing base of ship, which gives them an opportunity to Liberate through a Mela of a different kind .Liberation of : Ideas , Emotion and Expression .

OBJECTIVE : This thesis looks at different practices involved with participatory design .The plot read as an interpretation of things that matter to us kept changing as a metaphoric ship of theseus . The nostalgia of  dockyards and ship on the Edge on the eastern coast . This project initiated with the thought of making use of physically present units of history and their past to create new. It consists of many such abandoned Ships .
The statement: An attempt to make a new ship as an interpretation to the theory which stands as a subjective notion today. We perceive it as rebuilding the ship with current needs and parts of the old to serve the future. As their own belonging comes with a new identity ,

Does it still remain the same ship of Theseus . . . ?
Site Context: The thesis is based in Daarukhana, a group of three wharfs in the Eastern Waterfront of Mumbai.
