Little Pelican Lake House By Adam Beck Architects, Llc

The Detroit Lakes lake house is designed to highlight two key concepts through a simple and refined use of materials and form.
Architect: Adam Beck Architects, LLC
Location: Detroit Lakes, MN
Site: 3 Acres
Status: In Design

Firstly, the idea is to create a powerful and constant connection to the lake.  The rectangular shape of the house cuts its way through the landscape to the lake beyond.  A constant visual connection and closeness with the lake is created in order to create an ongoing dialogue between the two.

Secondly, the house blends with the adjacent landscape and hillside beyond by visually opening up the exterior wall and main interior hallway.  This creates an open courtyard to the landscape and begins to blur the interior with the exterior.

The house is restrained to the simple interplay between rectangular forms and spaces.   A simple material palette of wood, glass, concrete, metal and “white”, enhances the minimal expression of the whole, allowing the design to focus on the driving concepts.
