Indian tourism sector is experiencing phase of rapid growth, driven by flourishing middle class, increased spending by domestic and foreign tourists, development of infrastructure and support of the Government. Sundarban is one of the world’s most unique and beautiful Ecosystems. Sundarban, largest delta in the world, consists of 10,200 sq km of Mangrove Forest, spread over India (4200 sq km of Reserved Forest ) and Bangladesh (6000 sq km approx of Reserved Forest ) and is also the largest Mangrove Forest in the world. Sundarban has been attracting tourists from all over the world in increasing numbers. In 1997, the Sundarban (literally translated as beautiful forest) was declared as a World Heritage site recognizing the exceptional biodiversity of the region. Government of West Bengal is committed to the development of Tourism and is keen to invite private investment in the sector. Jhadkhali Eco Tourism Hub is one of the highest priority project of the Government of West Bengal in the Tourism Sector.

AIM: Aim is to study sensitivity of culture, bio diversity and applicable building regulation of Jhadkhali at Sundarban area, and to design a high end Eco Tourist Resort which shall act as the Gateway to Sundarban.

CONCEPT SHEET HANDMADE

OBJECTIVES: To do analytical study of culture, bio diversity, flora fauna, applicable building regulation climatic and energy consumption issues, locally available building material, architecture and construction techniques.
To design recreational environment for the resort through varieties of facilities and functions
To provide hospitality for both domestic and foreigner tourists and promote tourism

To design promoting economic opportunities to site neighborhood by creating interactive ground for locals and visitors so that there may be interchange of ideas and cultural demonstration.
To respond to climatic and energy consumption issues raised by present day architecture through eco-sensitive design.
Sheet 1

Concept: Started with deriving High End Eco-Resort: High End through Luxury and Form, Eco through Climate responsive, landscape, vernacular material (Bamboo) and by not disturbing site features, Resort through human comfort (body, soul, and mind) and facilities.
